East Hollywood Neighborhood Council Meeting (Zoom or In Person)
Governing Board Meeting
June 16 @ 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm
Hi Everyone,
Big meeting this month. Please join the East Hollywood Neighborhood Council this Monday, June 16th at 7pm for our community’s monthly Governing Board meeting. Community members can attend via Zoom (Zoom link in bio) or in-person at the basement ballroom of the Hollywood Hotel (1160 N. Vermont Avenue).
1) Our community will be meeting to discuss the situation with the Immigrant Enforcement Agency, the National Guard, and the United States Marine Corp and what the community can do to protect ourselves and our neighbors.
2) If the situation with the Federal Government was not difficult enough, the EHNC will also be discussing California State Senate Bill SB 79. While our board is still gathering details regarding the bill, SB 79 appears to allow the state government to force the city of Los Angeles to allow, effectively, 9-10 story buildings in almost any lot within .5 miles of a light rail station or a street with a dedicated bus lane (could possibly include any street with regular bus service).
Once the dedicated Bus Lane on Vermont is complete, this would mean that almost all of East Hollywood would apply to this new bill and could mean the destruction of our current rent controlled buildings in favor of approximately 10 story market rate buildings. SB 79 recently passed the California State Senate by a single vote and will now go onto the California State Assembly.
Please attend our neighborhood’s monthly meeting this Monday and let us know your thoughts.
